Pretty sure i’ve blogged these already, but regardless Jonathan Snook provides a good starting Adobe AIR Resources for the Ajax Developer.

  • IzzyMenu - CSS/DHTML Menu Builder

I forgot how I found this menu builder, but IzzyMenu “allows you to build your CSS & DHTML menu in minutes.” Well, seems to work ok but I was unable to add submenus (in Firefox 2). It always reset to the sample four menu items. Outside of that, it’s fun and easy to use. But if I can’t get past the submenu issue then it’s not really much use.

  • Saw this on Ajaxian - apparently Google has just come out with Javascript API for YouTube that will allow you to develop “the flexibility to customize the YouTube player with their own controls, player ‘chrome’, and even behaviors like custom playlists and menus.”. The YouTube Chromeless Player Reference is certainly interested and it looks like Christian Heilmann has written a video captioning system that lets you annotate as you pause. My spidey sense tells me this has BIG potential and some awesome stuff should be appearing over the next few weeks.

  • Select Boxes: jQuery & AJAX

Auto-populating Select Boxes using jQuery & AJAX is a great tutorial on working with jQuery, Ajax, and JSON… with select boxes. I was able to recently complete some client functionality thanks to this.

An AJAX file upload tutorial that doesn’t really use 100% AJAX, but instead a solution which imitates the AJAX process, but uses a normal upload process and iFrames.

  • Ajax Pagination Scripts

Just linking to two scripts I found of use recently. Both involve pagination with Ajax and Javascript. One involves actually loading separate pages, and the other is a “virtual pagination script” where the elements are already on the page and you want to create pagination functionality based on that.

  • Chyrp appears to be a light weight blogging engine, done in PHP/mySQL (some Ajax) and is “loosely based on the MVC design pattern.”. It’s been recently upgraded. I don’t like the fact you need to give an email for a live demo, but at least you can download the code.

Chyrp is a blogging engine designed to be very lightweight while retaining functionality. It is driven by PHP and MySQL (with some AJAX thrown in), and has a pimpin’ theme and module engine, so you can personalize it however you want.

John Gruber picked up on this (and so did i) that Cameron Hunt switched from Tumblr to Chyrp, an interesting endorsement.

This image transition manager is a “javascript library based on scriptaculous and prototype. It supports several image transitions, such as fading, appearing, sliding, growing and shrinking.”

  • I’m beginning to like Nick Stakenburg. Starbox allows you to create a variety rating boxes (including “half stars”) using just one PNG image. The library is build on top of the Prototype javascript framework and extra effects via Scriptaculous

This release adds a lot of new features to the library:

    * Rerating allows you to adjust your previous rating.
    * You can easily save your rating with Ajax using the build in callback.
    * Improvements to the CSS model, allowing you to style the Starbox based on status (hover, rated and locked).
    * Better seperation of Javascript, CSS and images.
    * A ghosting bar that tracks your average.
    * Custom event ’starbox:rated’ is fired when your rate.
    * Batched building of Starboxes based on cached overlay images.

  • Simplicity: Ajax PHP Framework

Although i’m a Codeignitor and CakePHP fan, i always like to bookmark interesting php frameworks. Simplicity uses EXT, seems to have a nice setup utility among other things…

Simplicity PHP Application Framework is an advanced, scalable and extensible PHP application framework to aid developers in creating high traffic, high availability Web 2.0 online applications. Integrating a solid MVC framework with some of the best Open Source projects around Simplicity aims to assist developers with any amount of experience in taking their applications to a new level.

Ajax IM uses Prototype, and appears to be a decent ajax-based instant messenger. Recently upgraded, everything (PHP and JS) is now object-oriented instead of procedural and has many functions modified to make better use of the Prototype library.

  • APPLEBOX is a recreation (to an extent) of the iTunes store. According to their blog, they are using Ruby On Rails and “Serverless AJAX”. I wondered what the latter was, and the comments in Ajaxian seems to address this term. I’m thinking this is more proof of concept than anything - this doesn’t work in Safari. And I doubt it works on an iPhone or iTouch, or any iPod for that matter.
