VoIP for iTouch Arrived?

The Touchmods team have released version 1.0 of SIP-VoIP for the iPod Touch. There’s a video on this post from Wired. It’s very beta, but it might be the start of adding the phone in the phone-less iTouch.

Peter Elst shows how to get PHP 5.2.3 onto an iTouch. Do at your own risk, but bookmarking anyway. Looks like there’s a chance to get Perl, Python, Ruby, etc in your iTouch as well but would you really WANT to I wonder?

  • Good article: Is the iPhone igniting the mobile Web? While some web designers and development thought about mobile devices, the iPhone and iTouch brought more focus on it - especially when the “average joes” are looking at sites on them now. My sites are seeing an increase of iPod viewings.

  • I have an iTouch, but some of my friends have an iPhone. Apple shows how to create custom ringtones in GarageBand 4.1.1, and from what i hear that’s big. Of course, you need GarageBand (and a Mac) but it’s a start to legit ringtones.

  • APPLEBOX is a recreation (to an extent) of the iTunes store. According to their blog, they are using Ruby On Rails and “Serverless AJAX”. I wondered what the latter was, and the comments in Ajaxian seems to address this term. I’m thinking this is more proof of concept than anything - this doesn’t work in Safari. And I doubt it works on an iPhone or iTouch, or any iPod for that matter.
