A List Apart recently had a preview of HTML 5, and i basically yawned. It was hard to explain why, until i read Warpspire’s post entitled “HTML5 and CSS3 are doomed for disaster“. While it’s a little TOO negative in some spots, and I still unsure about the points about Flash made - the rest of the article is right on the money. I can sum things up in one sentence: 99% of web developers shouldn’t even bother thinking about HTML5 or CSS3 for a few years.

Don’t think you can just close your eyes and wake up with a fully-formed HTMl 5 and CSS 3 ready to use; you have to get involved with it if you want it faster.
The W3C are listening, if you’re willing to discuss it.
Peter,
Maybe you missed the point of the post. I wasn’t particularly complaining about the lack of speed of HTML 5 and CSS 3’s standards. It’s actually the browsers that need to catch up. I mean, until IE6 isn’t the most common used browser on the internet, it’s almost pointless for everyday developers to care about HTML 5 or CSS 3. There are a few exceptions (Safari maybe related), but overall this was my point.
Thanks.
